Hedgehogs

Hedgehogs

It is now well known that the population of hedgehogs in Britain is suffering from a serious decline. The most recent analysis of the research done through the combined work of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and the People’s Trust for Endangered Species indicates that urban populations have fallen by up to 30% and rural populations by at least 50% since the turn of the century. At Wirral Animal Sanctuary we have raised enough support from the amazing local community to be able to make a significant contribution to the preservation and protection of this wonderful species.

ABOUT US

Situated on Carsgoe Road in Hoylake,  our hog rescue centre is currently home to over 70 sick, malnourished or juvenile hedgehogs. Run solely by volunteers, we run a seven day rescue and recovery operation. This means we are always looking for new recruits to help with cleaning, medicating and rehabilitating our special guests.

OUR WORK

Caring for our hogs is challenging work. From rescue to release, it is imperative that they are given the correct care and attention to enable them to flourish and live full lives once back in the wild.
